A note by Diya- Programme Leader Creative Development

I am very fortunate to have been born and raised with a privileged lifestyle in India, where a large part of the population is under privileged. My family has always taught me values and one of them has especially been humility.

My late grandfather, Mr. Ram Kohli, was a visionary pioneer in the tourism industry in India. After he passed away, my family set up the Ram Kohli Foundation in his memory. The mission statement of the foundation is “It is not about spreading happiness; life is all about sharing our happiness with others”.

My grandfather was a man with many talents. He was an astute businessman but more importantly a visionary who changed the way world perceived India as a tourism destination. It was not all work and no play for him. His unmatched style and boundless energy made him the life of the party and his charismatic personality earned him a celebrity status as well as a huge band of followers. His charm, his sparkling wit and his heart of gold made him one of the most endeared leader of his industry.

He was a loving husband, a doting father and a most indulgent grandfather. He always had time for his grandkids and especially made sure he spoke to my sister and I at least once a day over the phone, no matter which part of the world he was in.

His was a world full of compassion, love and a desire to create a difference and most importantly be the difference. Establishing the Ram Kohli Foundation has kept his legacy alive. I have been involved in the activities of the foundation for a few years and have had the opportunity to use my passion and helping others fund joy through creative expressions of dance and music.

In the Foundation, I have also set up a program of promoting local arts & crafts by engage with local communities. Our way to repay the society we live in.

The Ram Kohli Foundation also supports The Earth Saviours Foundation (www.earthsaviours.in) and Foster and Forge Foundation (www.fosterandforge.org), where I have been active in their activities and outreach programs.
